Oscar Wilde was released from Reading Gaol Prison on May 19, 1897, the following year he completed his last work The Ballad of Reading Gaol. The above video (at the 56 second mark) features the curator of the Library’s centennial exhibition highlighting a personalized copy of the book, with an inscription from Wilde to Major Nelson, the warden of Reading Gaol.
