Keith Richards Rocks Our World

Legendary Stones guitarist Keith Richards was in our house last night, talking about his new autobiography with music journalist Anthony DeCurtis as part of our LIVE From The NYPL series. Before he went “on” in front of a sold out crowd of admirers, employees took him to the Rose Main Reading Room for a private viewing of some of the Library’s greatest treasures. Check out pics, all by Jori Klein.
So what did Keith say?
“Sometimes you feel out of sync with the image. I haven’t been a junkie for 30 years. I still carry that ball and chain.”
“I don’t really like to do anything by myself. Except sleep … That’s what turns me on. The collaboration between musicians.”
“Virtuoso I’m not, really.”
“In my way, I did my bit for integration.” (He was explaining how “Black America” took to the Stones).
“After all these years, it would be very difficult to separate myself from the Stones in any coherent way.”
Why are his feet on the ground? “Probably the fear of not keeping my feet on the ground. Levitation is a trick I never quite got the hang of.”
He also said the Stones may do “something” next year, which sparked deafening applause. So stay tuned, Stones fans.
And stay tuned here - a video of his talk is coming soon.
