Today we got some good news: the US economy added 103,000 jobs in December bringing the rate 9.4%, but even still, the jobless rate in New York State was 8.3% (for November).
You know what you can do to help: Start a business. New research indicates that the largest drivers of job growth are young companies; startups. So if you’re tired of hearing about the declining economy, do something about it and launch a startup.
So before you retreat into your apartment (because, really who in NYC has a garage to start their company in), your first stop should be NYPL’s Science, Business, & Industry Library. Check out our Small Business Resource Center, use our market research databases to build your investor decks, attend one of our seminars, run your business plan by one of our SCORE Councilors, or participate in our Business Plan Competition (if you didn’t make the cutoff for this year, you can enter next December).
So go launch your startup. The legacy you’ll leave behind won’t just be a business, but a stronger economy for everyone.
If you have an urge to build something that could change the world, don’t focus on the money, but the legacy you’ll leave behind.
