There are 55 NYPL branches open today (with some limited service due to power outages) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The word is most of them are packed. Many are doing some added programming for kids and teens who are not in school, so drop by or call - the list of open branches with phone numbers is at nypl.org. Unfortunately, power outages are causing prolonged closures of some of our branches, like Jefferson Market, shown here in an interesting photo by Teri Tynes (the creator and writer of Walking Off the Big Apple, a strolling guide to New York). The image shows the Jefferson Market clock tower frozen at the exact moment that power went down. We are working very hard to get all of our branches up and running - stay tuned here and to our website for the latest information. We do expect more branches open tomorrow.
