Yesterday, the Library (which has now opened all but three of its branches - Van Cortlandt opened today) donated food that would have been served at its annual fundraising gala - canceled because of the storm - to about 600 New Yorkers reeling after Hurricane Sandy. Over a dozen NYPL volunteers spent the day serving Beef Bourguignon, Caesar salad, Apple Brown Betty, and more at three Staten Island locations, including The Staaten, Susan Wagner High School (pictured), and Ariana’s Grand in New Dorp, a catering hall damaged in the storm that has been transformed into a makeshift supply drop-off and pick-up location by the owners. The devastation in Staten Island and other parts of NYC is real - consider donating to the Red Cross to help.
