1. Happy National Doughnut Day! This event was first created in 1938 and is now celebrated on the first Friday of June every year. The holiday, created by the Salvation Army, is to honor the women who served doughnuts to soliders during World War I as this photo depicts (courtesy of the NYPL Digital Gallery) .
