1. Since it’s supposed to rain cats and dogs in New York this weekend thanks to Hurricane Irene, we thought we’d use this week’s Caturday to share this image of a man and his cat dealing with bad weather. The caricature was engraved sometime between 1818 and 1830, and is located in our Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs. While this is fun, New Yorkers should take the warnings about this hurricane seriously! Be careful, people! First read this NYPL blog post about hurricane preparedness, then check out some NYPL eBooks from the safety of your home (NYPL is closed today and tomorrow, remember). Then get lost in a book until you turn on the news and hear the storm is over!

  2. Actually … NYPL Is Closed Saturday AND Sunday

Slight update - because of Hurricane Irene, libraries are closed tomorrow and Sunday. STAY INDOORS, PEOPLE!! But don’t fret - you can still check out NYPL eBooks from the safety of your warm, dry home. So stay safe, stay inside and curl up with a good eBook.

  3. NYPL Closed Sunday

Due to the anticipated severe weather conditions, all units of The New York Public Library (covering The Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island) will be closed on Sunday, August 28, 2011. It is expected that all locations will be open on Monday, August 29, but New Yorkers are encouraged to check our website for the most up-to-date information (we could have delayed openings or even closings). We also encourage everyone to check out our Hurricane Preparedness blog.
