1. Is Brad Pitt A Vampire, Too?

So by now, you’ve all heard this crazy story about a Civil War era photo featuring a man who looks eerily similar to actor Nicolas Cage. The owner of the photo seems to think Cage is a vampire who has walked the Earth for all eternity … or some such insanity. Anyway, we flipped through our Digital Gallery of 700,000 images, and found this 1857 photo from our Manuscripts and Archives Division that includes a prisoner who we think bears some resemblance to Brad Pitt (or maybe Mark Wahlberg). It’s not QUITE as close as the Cage image, but c’mon - it’s not bad. We also found images that look similar to Matt Damon and Gerard Butler. Let the conspiracy theories begin.

  2. No, Matt Damon. Thank YOU! The star of “The Adjustment Bureau”  was kind enough to sign this photo for NYPL Special Events staff after spending multiple days shooting scenes at the Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on 42nd Street (New Yorkology did a nice piece on all the spots in New York City featured in the film, which opened this weekend). Thanks, Matt! Come back and visit!

  3. Anyone see “The Adjustment Bureau” this weekend? If you did, you noticed The New York Public Library’s landmark Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on 42nd Street prominently featured (it was basically the Bureau’s very beautiful headquarters). Here’s a pic from our Special Events Department of Matt Damon and Emily Blunt running through our Rose Main Reading Room, just one of many scenes featuring the building, which is turning 100 in May. You can see other images of the filming here. Also, the movie is based (albeit loosely) on a short story by Philip K. Dick, the writer whose stories inspired blockbusters like “Bladerunner,” “Scanner Darkly” and “Total Recall.” Want to check out his writing? We have plenty of his stories in our collection. If your mind feels like being blown, check them out.

  4. Matt Damon and George Nolfi take a break while filming The Adjustment Bureau in the Rose Main Reading Room of our Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on 42nd Street. We brought out this sort of oldie but goodie by NYPL Special Events guru Lis Pearson because last night was the movie’s premiere party, also at the Library (in Astor Hall). We are so gosh darn Hollywood. No, we really are. Check out a list of other popular movies filmed at NYPL.
