  2. The music world has lost a legend as it was announced this morning that the iconic Jazz great Dave Brubeck passed away at the age of 91. Of course known for many hits - especially TAKE FIVE - many of Mr. Brubeck’s albums can be found in the collections of The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.  The photograph above is a portrait of Mr. Brubeck taken in 2006 by photographer Hank O’Neal. RIP Mr. Brubeck, a true giant in the performing arts.

Just a reminder that tonight at 6:30pm at The Seward Park Library there will be a free screening of the 1980’s classic DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN that will feature a Q&A with the film’s director Susan Seidelman!!! This screening is part of the new Lower East Side Heritage Film Series: The 80s. Seats are on a first come, first serve basis.

Pete was here to discuss his new book Who Am I? (check it out of the Library here) as part of our LIVE from the NYPL series. He said many amazing things - here’s just a small example: when asked to describe his life in seven words last night, Pete said, “I run a store. I have customers.” Gotta love it. He also performed a little bit (video to come, fans). Do you love programming like this? Become a Friend of the Library (for as little as $40 a year!) and get discounts on tickets, advanced sales, etc.
