  2. It only seems appropriate to post a photograph of rock icon - and friend to the NYPL - Keith Richards, who is featured in Patrick Harbron’s Rock and Roll Photography exhibition OPENING TODAY!!!! at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Did you know that Keith always wanted to become a librarian? It’s true!

  3. Today in celebration of Patrick Harbron’s upcoming Rock n’Roll photography exhibition opening May 10 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, we are going to go with this photo of The Boss from 1984. It was GLORY DAYS for Bruce in ‘84 as he had just released his iconic album BORN IN THE USA, was dancing on stage with Courtney Cox and was basically the biggest rock star on the planet (though Michael Jackson may argue with that). Glory days indeed.

  6. I iz the champion, my friendz.
This photo from our 1940 World’s Fair Collection in our Manuscripts and Archives Division shows a modest feline surrounded by lots and lots of trophies at the Fair’s cat show. It’s unclear if the cat actually won the trophies, or if it just decided to plop itself down on the trophy table (very possible).
Happy Caturday (sorry - we were on hiatus for two weeks. Let’s just call it a cat nap). Interested in Caturday? Check out all of our entries. Interested in the World’s Fair Collection? Download our acclaimed free Biblion app, and browse through photos, letters and more.

  7. John Milisenda’s photographs of Manhattan’s Lower East Side during the 1960s will be on display at the Grand Central Library through June 20.

His photos are a candid portrait of everyday experiences, balanced between romanticism and mean streets. Many of these images were made when he was a teenager and even before he studied art at the Pratt Institute.

John Milisenda lives in Brooklyn. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.

Come visit our 2 new exhibitions on the theme of Ruin.  They are complementary exhibits of prints and photographs from The Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs.  Both exhibitions, Photography and Ruin” and “In Pieces: The Ancient Fragment or Ruin in Early Modern Prints” are located on the third floor of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.

  10. Check out Strato Lizzie, the mascot for Transcontinental Western Airline (TWA), pictured here being shown off in her special traveling case at the 1940 World’s Fair cat show. The picture is currently in our World’s Fair collection in the Manuscripts and Archives Division, and is just cute. The description from 1940 says Strato “put in more air hours than most human beings.” No explanation of what the “Cat Realist Society” is, though. Too bad. Enjoy - happy Caturday!!
