1. We figured we’d toast a new week with this interesting information - craft beer guru Sam Calagione, the founder of Dogfish Head Brewery, actually researched his original business plan at The New York Public Library! He mentions it in this fascinating interview with Bloomberg News (our mention is towards the middle of the piece). As you know, NYPL teamed up the Coney Island Brewery to recreate George Washington’s personal recipe for beer, which is located in our collections, so we know this world and are excited! Also, as a Library, it would be simply wrong for us not to mention that Calagione has a book out - and according to our friend at Bloomberg Amanda Gordon, an amazing book party.

  2. Our President … The Bread Baker

What does NYPL President Paul LeClerc do on Sunday? He gets up at 7, cooks burgers for his family out of ground chicken, onions and Parmesan cheese, bakes bread and makes pancakes, window-shops, rides his bike across Central Park, visits The Corner Bookstore, drinks espresso and reads the NY Times, which today, offers an amazing Sunday Routine column on this very topic - what President LeClerc (rhymes with eclair) does with his rare time off. The wonderful, personal photos above are from the article and by NY Times photographer Chester Higgins, Jr. So check it out! In the meantime, we’ll try to get the president to share that burger recipe … mmmmm.
