1. Today would have been the 77th birthday for music icon and legend Roy Orbison. You want to read about Roy’s life? You want to listen to his solo albums? Or how about checking out the great Traveling Wilbury’s album that Roy was a part of? Well as Roy would say, YOU GOT IT! Or in this case, the NYPL has all of your Roy Orbison materials available at your local branch. Happy birthday Roy!

  2. Just a reminder to all you Bob Dylan fans that tonight at 6pm at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is a free program in which the music of Bob Dylan is performed by Dylan interpreter Howard Fishman and his band. This program is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dylan’s debut album.

  3. Who is that? Why, it’s legendary musician Pete Townshend hanging out with the NYPL’s own Paul Holdengraber in our historic 42nd Street building last night. Pete was here to discuss his new book Who Am I? (check it out of the Library here) as part of our LIVE from the NYPL series. He said many amazing things - here’s just a small example: when asked to describe his life in seven words last night, Pete said, “I run a store. I have customers.” Gotta love it. He also performed a little bit (video to come, fans). Do you love programming like this? Become a Friend of the Library (for as little as $40 a year!) and get discounts on tickets, advanced sales, etc.

  5. It only seems appropriate to post a photograph of rock icon - and friend to the NYPL - Keith Richards, who is featured in Patrick Harbron’s Rock and Roll Photography exhibition OPENING TODAY!!!! at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Did you know that Keith always wanted to become a librarian? It’s true!

  6. Today in celebration of Patrick Harbron’s upcoming Rock n’Roll photography exhibition opening May 10 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, we are going to go with this photo of The Boss from 1984. It was GLORY DAYS for Bruce in ‘84 as he had just released his iconic album BORN IN THE USA, was dancing on stage with Courtney Cox and was basically the biggest rock star on the planet (though Michael Jackson may argue with that). Glory days indeed.
